WKU vs MTSU

It did not take long for the MTSU Blue Raiders on Saturday to set the tone. Right from the opening kickoff things did not look good for the Western KY side. Dominant defense and exciting offense had onlookers thrilled as the "Men in Blue" amassed 57 points on their way to dismantling the boys from Bowling Green. Trys were many as the Blue Raiders rumbled through the first half. One of the most impressive trys came at the hands of big lock Saadiq Ziyad, where he fielded a restart kickoff and faked inside, changed directions and smoked all defenders on his way to the try zone. A nice penalty play at 5m gave forwards Captain Josh Furtaw another try on the season. John Grate added at least one more try as did the freshman duo of Dustin Gordon and Chris Merridith. Once again, Nick Chamberline had a fine day of kicking. As the game wound down, MT substituted heavily to give the A-side a much deserved rest and to give the newbies some A-side experience. When the final whistle was blown, the score stood 57-17, as the MTSU Blue Raiders stay undefeated at home and move to 3-1 on the season.

The "Killer B's" also won and remain undefeated on the season. Now with a few games under their belts, the MT B-side is really playing some great rugby. With many first time players they have developed into a disciplined unit. Coaches were in high praise of all, but singled out a few in the win against the Hilltopper's B-side. Wrestling convert, Colton Riley continued to elevate his level of play. Understanding his role on the team Riley takes the ball up strong and places it back with confidence. Another young standout is Sam Holloway. Sam, new to the game of rugby, obviously has picked up the game nicely. On Saturday, Sam had many fine plays, but none as nice as when he took a kickoff and stunned the WKU defense with his speed on his way to a 65m score. "That Holloway is a player!" remarked Coach Dusty Brown. "Who knew he had that kind of speed?" he added. Another bright spot for MTSU was Freshman center Zeke Anderson. Anderson, a former Siegel High School, All-conference performer showed he has a nose for the try line, scoring on one long try and making several strong runs. "We glad to see Zeke running so strong." said Coach Danny Demonbreun. "He's a tough kid and will surely be an A-side player in the near future." he added. MTSU's B-side remains undefeated with a record of 3-0.
