Moosemen Match Report
Arkansas State University made the trip to Murfreesboro this weekend to play MTSU at home on a beautiful, cloudless day. The Blue Raiders were fully aware that they were facing a tough match against a team who had defeated the University of Tennessee just 2 weeks ago. In preperations all week long the coaches challenged the MT Rugby players to improve and to take responsibility for their gameplay.
The game began a little wild with long strikes and ferocious contact, but quickly settled into a solid, well-played rugby game. A-State missed on an attempt at goal keeping the scores at nill, but shortly after struck for a try followed by the conversion kick. MT answered with a kick for 3 via Nick Chamberlain. Within minutes, another try is posted by ASU by their fullback Whitey. The conversion is missed making the score 12-3. During a lineout approximately 10 meters out in A-State territory the ball was mishandled and Christian Greiner scooped it up and trudged through for MT's first try of the day. Nick Chamberlain would be successful on the conversion. ASU snags another 3 points off of a kick just before the end of the half making the score 10-15.
Again, the coaches challenged the MT players and reminded them that this was a display that proves they are a great team in the making. The 2nd half began with an unfortunate mistake that put A-State in scoring range and they left with 3 points. Christian Greiner, again, stepped up and grabbed another try for the Blue Raiders and Chamberlain converted. Fighting back and forth MTSU's defensive line continued to launch hard into ASU's backline disrupting play, but ASU still found a way to punch another one through. The score stood at 17-25 with 20 minutes to go, and the Blue Raiders feverishly began to try and even the score with the time remaining. A few well-placed kicks had the Blue Raiders at the gates, but they were never able to finish out. Finally, A-State scored a late try and put the wraps on a hard fought game.

A very disappointing day for the B team followed the A-sides game. Time after time misplaced defenders and poor tackling resulted in Arkansas' B side players piercing through a sea of Blue and scoring on long runs in an uninspired match. The game was 20 minute halves.
