Moosemen Match Report
MTSU traveled to Baton Rouge, Louisiana this weekend for our Fall Tour trip. We faced Baton Rouge men's club and traveled with 18 players. Although we left many at home, we were excited about the challenge of coming to Louisiana and playing teams we don't see often.
The game started out with an early strike from Baton Rouge and the Blue Raiders looked shakey. The MTSU side has yet to play 2 games this season with the same 15 in the lineup due to injuries, etc.
It was sure to be a route...MTSU repeatedly gave up posession to the Baton Rouge team which struck for run after run making the score 57-0 at the half.
The coaches...to put it lightly, challenged the guys to dig in and find the will to correct their faulty play.
The second half began and the Blue Raiders proved that they are capable of more as they countered a Baton Rouge try with their first try of the game by Kurt "Peacock" Faulkner, on a scrum half pick n' go at the 4 meter line. The Blue Raiders found confidence from this score and Seth Providence struck for the next try.
Baton Rouge would follow with 2 tries of their own following this score making the halftime score 17- 12, which was a moral vicotry for the guys as they persevered and haulted the explosive Baton Rouge club's strikes.
The official game consisted of 30 minute halves and the Raiders played a 3rd 30 minute period after a 15 minute break that would be all the B game we could muster up. With the assitance of the coaches, Dusty Brown and Phillip Maddox and some help from Baton Rouge players we put together an additional 30 minutes.
A HUGE thank you to Baton Rouge for their hospitality and sportsmanship. The jambalaya and beer was flowing after the game and we had a great time.
